Abstract

This study examines heroic attitude and the factor which cause heroic
attitude in Mulan film 2020. Heroic is a trait possessed by someone who is brave,
never gives up, is willing to sacrifice and defends truth and justice without asking
for a reward for his actions. Heroic is also considered to have positive values for
others and prioritizes the interests of others rather than one’s own interests. The
purpose of this study was to find out the heroic attitudes and the factor which
cause the heroic attitudes shown in Mulan film 2020. The focus of this research is
the main character in the film, namely Mulan, played by Liu Yifei. The design of
this research is descriptive qualitative. The researcher applies the theory of
heroism from Franco & Kohen and theory of psychoanalysis from Sigmund
Freud. A psychological approach is also used in this study. The data sources of
this research are pictures, dialogues, and the script of Mulan film 2020. In
collecting data, the researcher uses documentation techniques. The technique used
in analyzing the data in this study is a descriptive technique. The results of this
study are 1.) The heroic attitude shown by Mulan is took serious risks, making
sacrifices, defending a moral cause, overcame major hardships, and who did so in
service of a principle. 2.) The factors that influence Mulan’s heroic behavior are
from her family, the environment of Mulan, and the witch.
