Racism is the case when a person or people receive some bad actions or
bad treatments from other people such as discrimination or just a prejudice
because of something different between them. This thesis aims to ( 1 ) describe
the types of racism and ( 2 ) explore the impacts of racism in the novel ''The other
black girl'' by Zakiya Dalila Harris. To reach those research question, the
researcher used two theories to analyze the data, racism and types of racism from
Goerge M. Fredrickson ( 2014 ) and the impacts of racism from Paul C.
Rosenblatt ( 2014) as a guideline. The method of this research is qualitative
research. The source of the data in this research is a novel written by Zakiya
Dalila Harris entitled ''The other black girl''. In collecting the data, the researcher
used technique of documentation. The technique used in analyzing the data in this
study was a descriptive technique. The results of this research are : 1 ) There are
two types of racism in novel ''The other black girl'' by Zakiya Dalila Harris : ( a )
Individual racism and ( b ) Institutional racism, for the data, the most dominant
type of the racism in this novel is individual racism. 2 ) The impacts of racism
reflected in this novel are ; ( a ) Grief, ( b ) Rage, and ( c ) Humiliation, for the
data, the most dominant impact of the racism in this novel is Grief.
