Abstract

Students’ motivation and reading strategies are one of the important part to achieve students’ reading achievement because those give the effect toward their reading achievement where the achievement level they are. The purpose of this study is to find out: (1) whether or not there is significant correlation between students’ motivation and reading achievement of the eleventh grade students of SMA N 9 Tanjung Jabung Timur, (2) whether or not there is significant correlation between reading strategies and reading achievement of the eleventh grade students of SMA N 9 Tanjung Jabung Timur, (3) whether or not students’ motivation and reading strategies significantly influence reading achievement of the eleventh grade students of SMA N 9 Tanjung Jabung Timur. The population of this study is the whole classes of 11 th grade which consist of one hundred thirty four students. Then all students are selected as the sample by using total sampling technique. The data are collected using questionnaires and reading test. Pearson product moment and regression analysis are used to find out the correlation and influence among three variables. The result shows that there is no correlation between students’ motivation and reading achievement. Then, there is correlation between reading strategies and reading achievement r= 0.192. Besides that, there is also significant influence of students’ motivation, reading strategies and reading achievement with 3.7%.
