Abstract

The purpose of the research is to find out there was any significant effect in reading comprehension at the eighth grade Junior High School 12 Tanjung Jabung Timur after they were taught by using partner reading strategy, and there was any difference between the score of the students who are taught by using partner reading strategy. The method used in this research was a quantitative method and design used in this research was a quasi-experimental design. In collecting data, the researcher conducted pre-test and post-test by serving reading comprehension test which consist 25 multiple choice items for each test. The result of this research show that there was a significant effect in reading comprehension at the eighth grade students Junior High School 12 Tanjung Jabung Timur after they were taught by using partner reading strategy. It can be seen from the difference between students’ mean score of pre-test and post-test in experimental class which improve from 53,82 to 76,91. The mean score of post-test control class was 67,45 while the mean post-test in experimental class was 76,91 was higher than control class. It can be concluded that partner reading strategy can be applied to improve students’ reading comprehension.
