Abstract

The researcher problem is focused on the correlation between students’ reading strategies and students’ reading comprehension. Then, the objective this study is to know the correlation between students’ reading strategies and students’ reading comprehension at eight grade of MTs N 4 Bungo. This is a quantitative research. The researcher used correlational research design. The research was conducted at MTs N 4 Bungo. The population of this research is 69 students. The sample of test in this study is 69 students that consist of class VIII A, B and C. The sampling technique that used is total sampling. The techniques of collecting data used the test and questionnaire. Researchers used a questionnaire to determine the level of students' reading strategies. Furthermore, to determine the level of reading comprehension of the students, researchers used tests. To analyze the data, researchers used product moment correlation. The results of data analysis are r (0.279), this indicates that this variable has a positive correlation. However, the correlation of r = 0.279. categorized as low correlation. By examining the Product Moment table for N 67 at a significant level of 0.5%, we get rtable = 0.1997. Thus rxy> rtabel (0.279> 0.1997) which means the correlation results are convincing or significant. Thus the decision is accepted by the alternative hypothesis, which means that there is a significant relationship between students' reading strategies and reading comprehension of eighth grade students at Madrasah Tsanawiyah 4 Bungo.
