Abstract

This study aims to find out the strategies used by English teachers in teaching reading in class XI Madrasah Aliyah Jambi Laboratory. And how did he apply the strategy in teaching reading in the eleventh grade Madrasah Aliyah Jambi Laboratory? This research method is qualitative research. The subject of this study was an English teacher at Madrasah Aliyah, Jambi Laboratory. The research instruments were observation and interviews. The results of the study found two strategies used by the teacher, SQ3R and QARs, but the teacher often used SQ3R startegy. This strategies help the teacher in teaching reading, with the strategy the teacher able to know how fair their student understand what he had given to them, SQ3R strategy is the key for reader to achieve reading comprehension and help students become independent readers. Based on this research, this strategy is effective in learning reading comprehension because it can help students understand, in short, this strategy makes a good contribution to the teacher. Students who have difficulty reading will find it easier to master reading. By using this strategy the teacher will find it easier to provide material to students.
