Abstract

Comprehension at The Second Grade Student‟s of SMPN 24 Kota Jambi.The purpose of this study to give information to teachers, and the institutions about the effect of Think Pair Share (TPS) Strategy towards students‟ reading comprehension in understanding descriptive text and to give some contributions to the students and teachers in order to improve students‟ reading comprehension in understanding descriptive text. In conducting the research, the researcher is going to use the experimental research.The research is designed by using pre and post-test design. The resultshowed that the comparison between pre-test and post-test shows that experimental class (23. 48) that was given treatment by this technique had bigger difference score than control class (5.68) that was not given the treatment. It proves that Think Pair Share (TPS) strategy Technique help the students in answering the question related to the reading text.The value of t test (2.957) is higher than the value of t-table (2.021) at the degree of freedom (n1 + n2 – 2) = 44 and the level of confidence 0.05. So, if the t-test value is higher than t-table, the alternative hypothesis (H1) which states that there is a significant effect on students‟ reading comprehension between those who are taught with using Think Pair Share (TPS) strategy and those who taught without using Think Pair Share (TPS) strategy is accepted. The conclusion that Think Pair Share (TPS) strategy Technique improves students‟ reading comprehension especially in descriptive text. The comparison between pre-test and post-test shows that experimental class that was given treatment by this technique had bigger difference score than control class that was not given the treatment. It proves that Think Pair Share (TPS) strategy Technique help the students in answering the question related to the reading text.
