Abstract

The objectives of this study were to find out: whether or not significant interaction effect between rewards punishments and students’ motivation towards students’ speaking performance. This is quantitative research with factorial design. The researcher used total sampling which means that the sample is 36 students. The data were collected by using questionnaire and speaking test. Based on the research findings, the result the total mean score of students with low motivation increased 2.84 points, it was from 48.38 in pre-test to 51.22 in post-test. Meanwhile, the total mean score of students with high motivation increased 10.94 points, from 58.94 to 69.88. The result of of equal assumed p-value was 0.337>0.05 (standard score). It means Ho was accepted and the Ha was rejected and in the equal variances not assumed p-value was 0.22<0,05 (standard score ) it means Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected, there is significant interaction effect between the students taught by rewards punishments and students motivation, those who were not. The result of two-way ANOVA analysis showed that p-value of rewards punishment strategy and students motivation of students speaking were .0,000 (lower than 0,05). It can be concluded that there was any significant interaction effect between rewards punishments and students’ motivation towards students’ speaking performance.
