Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out the score of students‘ reading motivation in reading English, to find out the score of students‘ reading comprehension in English and to find out whether there is or no correlation between reading motivation and students‘ reading comprehension. The study was conducted at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Minhajul Ishlah Muara Tebo, in february 2018. The population in this study were all eighth grade students of Madrasah Tsanawiyah Minhajul Ishlah Muara Tebo, students of the eight grade were consisted of 30 students. The design of this study is quantitative research. Correlation between two variables, variable X and variable Y, variable X is reading motivation and variable Y is students‘ reading comprehension in English. The instruments of this research are questionnaire and test. In analyzing the data, the writer used product moment formula.The data were processed and analyzed by using manual statistical technique, the result of this research as shown by the explanation below, The score of correlation coefficient is 0,836. Because of 0,836 or rh is bigger than rt at significant standart 5% and 1% or 0,374<0,836>0,478 so that alternative hypothesis (Ha) is received and null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. It can be conclude that the reading motivation and students‘ reading comprehension at Eight Grade Students of Madrasah Tsanawiyah Minhajul Ishlah Muara Tebo have significant correlation or positive correlation.
