Abstract

The objectives of this study were to find out the correlation between students‟ writing motivation and students‟ writing ability, the correlation between students‟ writing motivation ability and students‟ writing ability and the contribution of students‟ writing motivation towards students‟ writing ability. This is quantitative research with correlation design. The population in this study was the elevent grade at Islamic senior high school as‟ad Jambi which consisted of 2 classes with 75 students. The researcher used random sampling which means all students in eleventh grade involved in this research. The variables were one independent variable (students‟ writing motivation) and one dependent variable (writing ability). The data were collected by questionnaire and test. Based on the research findings, it revealed that the students‟ is average category. The result of the coefficient correlation between students‟ writing motivation and students‟ writing ability was r=0.585. It means that those variables were positively correlated. However, r=0.585 was categorized as moderate correlation. The result of analyzing the significance value is 0.000, it means that 0.000>0.05. So, Null hypothesis (Ho) rejected and Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) accepted.
