Abstract

The purposes of this research are to know the effect of using know want to know learned (KWL) strategy towards students‟ reading comprehension and to know the significant difference on students‟ reading comprehension between the student‟s taught by using know want to know learned technique and those who were not at the eight grade of SMP Islam Al–Falah Jambi. know want to know learned (KWL) is a tables which consists of 3 columns that provides a structure for recalling what students know about a topic, noting what students want to know, and finally listing what has been learned. This research was quantitative research and it was conducted by using quasy-experimental design with nonequivalent control group design which two classes as Experimental Class and Control Class. The population of this research was the eighth grade students of SMP Islam Al–Falah jambi. The subject of this research was 58 students and this research was 29 students in experimental class and 29 students in control class. The result of the analysis indicated that the mean of post-test score (73,39) was higher than the mean of pre-test score (45,70). So that Ha was accepted. It means that there was a significant effect of using Know Want to Know Learned (KWL) after giving treatment. the writer had computed that the score of ttest ≥ ttable (3,86 ≥ 2,04). So, Ha was accepted. It means, there was significant effect of using Know Want to Know Learned (KWL) strategy and those who are not at the eight grade of SMP Islam Al – Falah Jambi. Therefore, using Know Want to Know Learned (KWL) has a good effect on students‟ reading comprehension, so it is recommended to the teachers to use Know Want to Know Learned (KWL) to improve their student‟ comprehension.
