Abstract

The aims of this study were to find out the effect of Herringbone Technique toward the students’ reading comprehension especially in Narrative text at Islamic Senior High School 1 Batanghari. Moreover, the objective of this study were to find out whether Herringbone Technique gave significant effect on students’ reading comprehension or not, and whether or not there was the difference between students taught by using Herringbone technique and those taught by teacher’s strategy. This is quantitative research with quansiexperimental research design. The target of population in this study was students of the eleventh grade of Islamic Senior High School which consist of 4 classes with 95 students. The sample of the study was two classes as an experimental and control class which choosed by using simple random sampling, which consist 24 students in experimental and 24 students in control class. The instrument of collecting the data used multiple choice items. The students were given the pre test before the treatment. Then the students were taught the Narrative text by using herringbone technique. In the last of the treatment, the students were given the post test to know the effectiveness of the Herringbone Technique. The result of the study showed that there was a significant effect on the students reading comprehension after being taught through Herringbone Technique. The result of the calculation showed that the mean score of post test in experimental class was 63,33 was higher than pre test in experimental class 52,50. The t observed was 4,683 when the t table of df (46) in significance 5% was 2,012. In another word, the Herringbone technique is give some effect on the students’ reading comprehension whether the students was taught by the teacher’s strategy.
