Abstract

The research result showed that first, the total data 30 unit data analysis of Code-Mixing performed 11 insertion of words, 6 insertion of phrases, 7 insertion of hybrids, and 6 insertion of reduplications. It showed that insertion of words is commonly used by Students. Based on the data, Students commonly used insertion of word to mix the code. It is because the students usually found that the insertion of word in Indonesia is not familiar whereas the word in English is familiar and easier to be spoken; second, there are five functions from the Code-Mixing used in Students‟ Conversation at Al-Juharen Boarding School, there are addressee specifications, repetitions, interjections, message qualification and facility of expressions. The function mostly used by the students in mixing the code is facility of expression. It showed that the students mixed the code when she was not able to find the appropriate word in Indonesia then they mixed the code to find the most suitable word to be spoken; third, there are four reasons of Code-Mixing used in Students‟ Conversation at Al-Juharen Boarding School, they are talking about particular topic, interjection inserting sentence connectors, repetition used for clarifications, and because of being emphatic about something. The reason mostly used by the students in mixing the code. It is because the students mix the language is due to the lack of equivalent lexicon in the language
